Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola faces a nervous wait over the fitness of Kyle Walker ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.
The 33-year-old full-back hasn’t played since March due to a hamstring problem and missed the first leg draw in Madrid. While named on the bench for City’s weekend win over Luton, Walker stayed unused.
With City chasing a historic treble, Walker’s return would be a major help. His pace and experience were badly missed in the first leg, where City conceded three goals. He was a key figure in last season’s Champions League run, especially in the thumping semi-final win over Real Madrid.
Guardiola admitted a decision on Walker’s inclusion will be made after a Tuesday assessment. “He trains well, feels positive, but we’ll see if he starts or comes off the bench,” he said.
Centre-back Nathan Ake could also return from injury to bolster City’s defensive options for the crucial two-legged game against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend.
